inspired and ready to roll!

Well, I have the entire evening to myself.  My husband is off playing a poker game (another one of his expensive hobbies) so this leaves me half watching 'ghost adventures', listening to my daughter scream happy little yells at all of her toys, and researching diy projects online.  I haven't really found anything that is really lighting a spark under me to rummage through my craft closet and start crafting like a mad woman.  But I did make another little gift for a lady that my husband works with, so I thought I would share that with you.

On a lighter note, I may use this paper quill inspiration that has come over me recently to live up to the former goal I promised to uphold.  (just as a reminder, i promised i would DO all of the projects that i talk about on here and to start with i've been really researching for something harry potter inspired)  And because paper quilling looks so elegant i could use this as home decor, and really display it.  This is the reason why it has taken me so long to find a harry potter project.  I didn't want anything tacky... i really needed something i could display in my home, and i didn't want it to be out of place as well.

My idea, is to create a paper quill stag, this would be in the honor of Harry Potter's patronus!  and because i like the rustic look in my home, it would be beautiful in my entryway along with my fabric framed moose.

See... the Stag would be an amazing add!  Now i just need to get started on it.

also, in case any of you are curious about my moose, here's how i made it.

What you will need:
two contrasting colors of fabric (i just recycled old tshirts)
sketch out any old shape you like for a template
(i love moose... and i don't mean to brag but i'm good at drawing things up)
a large picture frame
(my frame was on sale at micheals... it was a $50 frame, i paid $11!)
(my frame was also gold so i repainted it orange... a brave color)
hot glue gun and sticks

Directions:
Step 1:  draw out your desired shape and cut the paper out.
Step 2:  trace the shape onto the fabric that you want to be your shape
Step 3:  cut the fabric along your traced lines
Step 4:  hotglue around the edges an inch at a time, sticking it to the other fabric's center.
Step 5:  once your done throw it in a frame, and hang it up!

I also want to take this time to tell you that from now on another goal is to take pictures of the projects process.

Thanks for reading and please let me know what you think!

Paper and Swirls and Everything Nice!

Oh, I am completely excited to show off this little diy door sign I made for a close friend!  And what was my inspiration you may ask?  Well, the inspiration is just genius and elaborate and perfect and all kinds of other positive words!

THIS was my inspiration.  Sorry i'm new at this and i couldn't get the image to show on my blog :(

It is utterly Amazing.

But, because I have a little one to tend to, I came up with my own little version.

Right now my only complaint is that you can't see them as well as i would like you to.  Because my camera has a flash and it is dark in my house, it really picked up on the hotglue splots and in person they are not seen!

What you will need for this project:
thick white paper- i used about three pieces.
cardboard or wood- i opted for cardboard! free!
hot glue gun and about two sticks of glue.
any color paint for your background.

Step 1:  cut the cardboard/wood to whatever shape you fancy... paint the side that will be showing and allow it to dry completely.

Step 2:  really plan out what you want.  I researched old english font and drew it out on a seperate sheet of paper so I would have something to really measure with.

Step 3:  cut your white paper into 1/4 inch strips.

Step 4:  hot glue the bottom edge of the strips as you cut and measure according to the image you have on your 'rough draft'
then just keep repeating until your finished!

it sounds like a lot of work... which it was, but it was a fun project!  And it is going to make for a unique gift.

There are so many possibilities with this project. I may attempt a moose head one to frame and put in my entryway!  comment and let me know how yours turns out!  Thanks for reading.

Kitchen Therapy

I have noticed lately that the kitchen is really becoming my best friend.  I've been having a hard time lately, specifically in the wallet... I've really been turning to my kitchen for therapy.  I'm not a perfect cook, but I've definitely found some great things to make, and that was the inspiration for this post.  I'm sad over money and I needed an escape and where shall this escape be? I'm so glad you asked... chocolate peanut butter fudge... and I know what your thinking, Fudge is a holiday treat; a winter food.  That, at least, was what my mother always said to me. Now I'm starting to wonder if that was just a ploy to keep sweets out of our house!  So, I made up a unique and super easy way to whip this up and I really cannot wait to share with my dear blogger friends!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge

Ingredients:
2 cups white sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup milk
hot chocolate mix
1 cup peanut butter

Directions:
bring sugars, milk, and 4 scoops of hot chocolate drink mix to a boil.
Let mixture boil for about a minute, just until it starts really bubbling.
Remove this from heat and mix peanut butter in really fast.
only stir until its completely mixed.
pour into your greased container... throw in freezer for a few minutes!
wait until you know the center is cool, then cut and serve... or indulge.

Look at that rich color!  You won't regret this treat... only in the hips hehe

And I couldn't leave out my little helper... She Loves watching me cook... She's also my happy taste tester!

Thanks for reading... please comment and tell me how yours turned out!

gush gush gush

As some of you may understand, being a parent leaves little to no time for 'me' time.  And that is why I feel that I must share my day with you.  It may not be as exciting to some people, but for me, it was truely enjoyable.  Before i get into this, i must explain that since my daughter was born, the last date I had with my husband was the harry potter 7 part 1, so it would only make since that he would plan to take me to harry potter 7 part 2.  I refuse to spoil any of it for anyone (although i will say that if you don't read the books and you don't know what happens already, well... i just feel bad for you), all I want to say is that it was great!  I just love harry potter.  the entire wizarding world that J K Rowling created is truely amazing.  Nothing will ever compare to this, at least, not in my time.  So, this was my friday, a lovely co-worker of my husbands babyset for us, and we had a few hours of just us.  I truely missed that.  Just being able to walk hand in hand into the theatre took me back to our early dates.  Don't get me wrong, my daughter popped in and out of my head the entire time, and i couldn't wait to get back to her as soon as the movie was over, but just simply having that small window of time with just my husband really felt like a blessing.

That is why it is at this point in my blog I feel that I must confess in you.  I am horrible about coming up with amazing diy projects, or simply having a wonderful idea to really add to something, and I literally never do it.  What i am trying to say, is that it is going to be a goal of mine to pull through all of the projects that I talk about on here.  And to start I really want to do something in rememberance of Harry Potter.  It is not only because i am a fan, but because the books and movies will always remind me of such fond memories.  I haven't really came up with a true idea to really go on, so i still need to really brainstorm over this.

I'm sorry if this is so mushy, but I'm really just very happy right now.  Thanks for reading and putting up with this moment of blabbing!  please comment, tell me if there is a certain object that weighs heavy with memories that inspire you in the same way!

Welcome Welcome!

Hey! This is my very first blog! I am pretty excited about this... this is supposed to be a way for me to really say something... really get my veiws out there... really share something important! sooooo, where shall I start?  I think for my first blog i'm going to keep it simple... I should probably go ahead and warn you that I am crazy about my beautiful daughter Lindsey.  She literally is my world, other than my wonderful husband that makes me smile for new reasons every day (don't worry, from time to time i'm sure i will be sharing these little treasures).  My baby is 8 months old, she is starting to pull herself up and stand whenever and where ever possible! This includes pulling my livingroom decor off of my side tables.... constantly.  But I don't mind, she's too charming to be mad at.  I think this would be a good spot to share a picture of my lovely little lady...

aren't they a wonderful group!

ok, now that that is out of the way.... right now I am obsessing with researching ways to create flowers from fabrics or well ... anything for that matter.  as soon as I purchase my first sewing kit, I will make sure to do some tutorials on my favorites!  Also if you have any amazing ideas you would like to pass along... like what kind of objects you have recently stumbled upon to make flowers from, please feel free to share!

Thank you sooooo much for stopping by, and letting me share a little of my life with you!  Please come back and comment comment comment !  I looove feedback :)
